First Look Review
In a sea of new chest rigs out in the market place it is good to see one such rig embrace the idea of a scalable platform that gives you more mag space than a micro rig but doesn’t weigh you down like a heavy duty rig. But yet gives you space to add to for components like comms, first aid, admin gear, etc… It’s still lightweight, low profile, and can be worn and set up in a multitude of ways. Perfect for the Modern MInuteman!
I’m talking about the all new AT Armor Light Scout Rig!
In its base form it looks to be a modern version of the proven design of the classic Chicom Type 81 rig!
But improved upon with better materials, improved magazine pouches, hidden map/admin pocket, H-style harness, fast clips and velcro for mounting to a plate carrier, laser cut molle on the sides for adding pouches, IFAK, radio, etc…
The magazine pouches are perfect for AR mags! 20 round AK mags will work as well or 30 rounders if you tuck the flaps on the pouches…
Or you can get creative and use one of the magazine pouches as a holster for a pistol or as a radio pouch.
For me, my preferred setup for this rig is 4 AR mags, an IFAK on my right and radio on my left. In the map/admin pocket I keep a map, WIR notebook, pencil, button compass and red led light. Perfect light scouting setup for checking trail cams, gates, camp, game trails, and trail conditions. Throw on a small day pack for sustainment and weather needs and you're good for the day.
I own a lot of chest rigs… Micro rigs, Chicom rigs, heavy rigs, etc and I can tell you that this has already replaced the micro rigs and chicom rigs (I held onto 1 Chicom Type 56 rig for sentimental reasons). It does exactly what I want and need it to do and fits my use profile perfectly. It does not replace a heavy rig and there will be an upcoming review detailing my choice for that and why. I can recommend the AT Armor Light Scout Rig because I use it and it works for me for my needs!
