Over the last couple of years I've been fine tuning my patrol kits and one thing that has always been an issue is my on body E&E/Med kit/PSK. Not being a soldier and not always wearing BDU Pants or a Field Shirt this made a wearable solution important.
had shown me his E&E Fanny Pack and a light bulb went off that this was going to be my solution. Like him, I'm not a fan of bulky stuff in my pant pockets or cargo pockets. So regardless of what kit or clothing I'm wearing in the field this “Tactical Fanny Pack” was the answer I was looking for.I literally took a molle pouch I wasn't using, added a simple waist strap to it, and we have ourselves a fanny pack.
For what I wanted it to be able to accomplish I blended a couple different kits together to make for a package that, if I was separated from my gear, would enable me to get by for a 24 hour period in my area. So we have a hybrid Escape & Evasion (E&E) Kit/Personal Survival Kit (PSK), and medical kit, all in one package.
Here is a breakdown of items I keep in the kit…
MEDICAL:
-Tourniquet
-Pressure Bandage
-Shears
-Rolled Gauze
-Triple Antibiotic Ointment
-Burn Cream
-Hydrocortisone Cream
-Antihistamine
-Motrin
-Misc Bandaids
-Moleskin
E&E/PSK:
-Swiss Army Knife
-Chemlight Buzzsaws for signaling
-Gutted 550 cord
-Whistle
-Button Compass
-Red LED light
-Collapsable Water Bottle
-Ziplocks (freezer bags) for water collection x2
-Iodine Tablets
-Lifeboat Matches
-Ferro Rod w/Striker
-Lighter wrapped in duct tape/jute twine
-Fatwood
-Tea Candle
So as you can see it is it's own, stand-alone kit to easily add to whatever you're rolling in. Is there redundancy in it when compared to items in my LBE or Chestbrig, sure there is, but it's enough on its own to get you out of a tight spot and give you a fighting chance to survive and fight another day.
After all, at the end of the day you have one priority above anything else…
Similar to mine. I need to add some chem lights and a lighter. I keep a zippo in a pouch on my FLC with a multitool. In my Emergency bag I have an old 1950's hobo knife
