SKILL OVER GEAR
Gear isn't always the solution...
Recently we had a discussion on knives in one of our training groups and the topic of the perceived need of a new knife came up. I mean, who doesn’t want a new knife, right. Lord knows I have bins of them. But where does having the “right” blade Trump the skill of how to properly use it.
For most of us in the preparedness/Minuteman community will most likely need a general purpose blade that can do many things pretty well. Look at the above examples of blades that range from a $10 Amazon special to a Mora Companion, a classic Kabar, a SAK, a Condor Bushlore, a Walmart Multitool, and a $250 custom made blade. Look at the feathersticks each one produced. They’re all pretty similar, right. Cheap steel, expensive steel, mass produced and one of a kind hand forged, one that has been proven in wars around the world and one sold in Walmarts across the world. Every knife shown produced similar feathery curls.
Buying a new knife won’t fix your knife skills, but dedicated practice will.
Go sit around the campfire and practice with your blades. You’ll be glad you did.

"You can’t buy skill. It’s easier to buy shit than it is to train."
